Weary Warrior

2.19.19

I don't know about you, but I get tired -scratch that, I get exhausted from life. The constant-ness of the world we live in is enough to make anyone feel depleted if we are not careful. I have been the victim of burnout many times, if you know me at all, you know that "resting" isn't my strong suite. It feels unproductive, it leaves a lingering feeling of guilt in me, as I start to compile the list in my head of all the things I could be doing with that time. Things that would accomplish more, things that would get me to the next step.

These are good things, that's true, but if I am so depleted that I have completely lost the passion, the reason, the purpose of doing these good things, are they really good? So how can we possibly find rest, where do we go for restoration? We can't take a month-long Sabbath to Bora Bora every other month (although I wish I could lol) but there is something far superior, far more restoring and satisfying than even the best 2-hour hot stone massage.

God.

“…The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth.

He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable. He gives power to the faint, and to him who has no might he increases strength.Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint. (Isaiah 40: 28-31)”

When we draw our strength from Jesus, we can rely on His strength, which does not grow weary, which does not cease, instead of on our own feeble strength, which does. We are going to grow weary in this life, it is not a question of "if" but "when", and perhaps you, like me, are in an exhausting season right now. Perhaps the constant striving to do more, be more, accomplish more has run you to the ground. Friend, I'm right there with you, but when we return to the Lord in quiet stillness, when we look to Him for restoration and renewed strength to keep fighting the battle, He will provide all which we need. So take a rest, rest in His presence, in His word, in His pace, which is gentle and abiding. Find rest in Him alone, and He will make you to soar like the eagles. God Bless <3

Today's prayer:

Lord, help me to find my rest in You alone. To come to you when I am worn out and depleted. To look to You for restoration and renewed passion for You, Your word, and the purposes You have for me. Thank you that in Your strength, I have all that I need; that in You I can find rest from the world around me, and peace in the middle of the storm. In Jesus' name, Amen <3
