Lessons from Jesus and a Toothbrush

God likes to speak to me through tangible things sometimes, like puzzles, or floor boards, or toothbrushes 🪥but I love how intimately He knows me. He knows how to grab my attention and speak directly to my heart in a way that I will be able to understand & process. Isn’t He so good like that?
For Christmas, I asked for an electric toothbrush (this is what happens when you’re over 25 folks) and a few weeks ago, the batteries died. So instead of changing the batteries, I just kept using it like it was a normal toothbrush. It worked fine, it got the job done, it accomplished its purpose of brushing my teeth.
But yesterday, I finally changed the batteries and it was like brand new! As I brushed my teeth before bed, I thought to myself how much better it worked now and how I couldn’t believe I had let myself get used to the way it was without power... that’s when God spoke to my heart and reminded me that He is our source and when we don’t spend enough time with Him, our batteries can run low.
We go through the motions and get things done, and we still brush alright, but God doesn’t call us to “alright”, He calls and equips us for the ABUNDANT life He has called us to in Christ! God reminded me that sometimes, being charged up for His kingdom, is as simple as “changing the batteries”. We can start to get comfortable or settle for things that are close, but not the fullness of God for our lives!
God wants to bring us out of the ordinary and into the extraordinary, but it requires effort on our end too. We have to be willing to “change the batteries”, to stop procrastinating that thing He’s called us to do, to stop putting other things before Him and start seeking Him above all else. To let His Spirit recharge us with His word and His presence, so that we can function in the BEST possible way that He has designed and created us for.
God wants HIS BEST for our lives, He created us for so much more than just existing, He created us to be FUELED and ON FIRE for His Kingdom HERE, as it is in Heaven! His Spirit living in us is what charges us to keep going and to live out the abundant life He has called us to.
"And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules." (Ezekiel 36:26-27)
