In His Image

God has been teaching me a lot about emotions lately, and as a person who loves much, I also feel much.

And sometimes, that can be a beautiful thing, when placed in the hands of compassion and Jesus. But sometimes, those emotions can stem from a place that isn’t of God’s truth, or from my own sinful nature, and that’s when our emotions can hurt, more than help.

But the beautiful thing that God has been teaching me lately, is that our emotions are actually a reflection of God Himself. We are made in His image, and we bear His emotions.

Love. Sorrow. Anger. Joy.

But because of the sinful world we live in, our emotions can often lead us astray, causing us to hurt ourselves, others, and God.

But praise God, that He had a plan of redemption all along!

One of the verses God has repeatedly brought to my attention over the last few months is Romans 12:2, which reads;

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”

Through Christ, through His word, through His Spirit, “we find redemption from ourselves” ooof I don’t know about you, but often times, my thoughts need a lot of redeeming.

Anxious toils of lies, comparison, jealousy, bitterness, guilt, shame, self-pity...I’ve felt it all, but God doesn’t want us to live a life where we rest on the ups & downs of our ever-changing emotions, but instead upon the unchanging and eternal truth of His word.

It is not an easy task, to renew our thoughts, especially if we have been believing one way for such a long time, but God helps us by His Spirit, as we meditate of His word, and allow His truth to transform our thoughts and emotions, into HOPE and TRUTH, that we may bring glory to God.

Your emotions are not a curse. They are not bad. God gave us emotions for a purpose and they can be beautiful. But they do not have the final say, God does. And He gave you those emotions that you may bear His image and likeness to the world around you! How amazing is that!?!
